As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its governorship primary election in Ekiti State scheduled for October 27, 2025, party members across the 177 wards have reiterated their loyalty to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), describing him as the custodian of the progressive legacy in the state.

This resolution was made clear during the ward visitations embarked upon by the BAO Primary Election Campaign Committee, which began on Monday, September 29, 2025. The committee noted that the massive reception and show of love extended to Governor Oyebanji demonstrate his position as 'the heart and soul of the progressive family in Ekiti.'

According to the committee, Oyebanji’s political journey has been marked by consistency, loyalty, and commitment to the ideals of the APC. They stressed that unlike “fair-weather aspirants,” the governor had never abandoned the party.

“Across the wards, party faithful reaffirmed that BAO is the true symbol of progressive politics in Ekiti,” the committee said.

Tracing Oyebanji’s involvement from the days of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), through the mergers that birthed the Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and eventually the APC, members said the governor had remained steadfast in the progressive fold.

The committee further took a swipe at some aspirants, accusing them of being opportunists and “social media politicians” who only reappeared after abandoning the party. “We have not forgotten those who betrayed the party when loyalty was most needed. Today, they return through a social media aspirant, alien to the traditions of Ekiti APC, dancing naked in the marketplace,” it stated.

Party members emphasized that the APC’s flag bearer in the state must be someone who understands and shares in the struggles that built the party, insisting that only Oyebanji represents that history.

“As the primary election draws near, party members are united in their resolve to protect the heritage of the APC and support a true progressive, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the tested and trusted leader who embodies the authentic spirit of Ekiti progressivism,” the committee concluded.
